Lotto is drawn every Wednesday and Saturday night. Six winning numbers and a bonus ball are drawn from a barrel of balls numbered 1 to 40. Match all 6 to win Lotto's Division 1, at odds of 1 in 3,838,380. Matching 3 numbers wins a free ticket.
Most players add Powerball to their lines. It's drawn from a separate barrel of balls numbered 1 to 14, and if your Powerball matches, you win a Powerball prize on top of your Lotto prize. Match all 6 numbers and the Powerball to win the Powerball Jackpot: the odds are 1 in 53,737,320.
A Lotto line costs $0.70, or $1.50 with Powerball. Lottery prizes are tax free in New Zealand.
