Lotto 6/49 details & rules
Lotto 6/49 is drawn every Wednesday and Saturday night. In the Classic draw, six winning numbers and a bonus ball are drawn from balls numbered 1 to 49. Match all 6 to win $5 million, at odds of 1 in 13,983,816. A play costs $3, and matching 2 numbers wins a free play.
Every play also gets a 10-digit number for the Gold Ball draw, which has a winner every time. One number is picked from all the plays sold, and its owner wins $1 million, or the Gold Ball Jackpot if the gold ball is drawn instead of a white one. The Jackpot starts at $10 million and grows by $2 million every draw until the gold ball comes out.
The Gold Ball Jackpot is $34,000,000, with 18 balls left. With about 4.6 million plays sold in each draw, a play has a 1 in 4.6 million chance of winning the Gold Ball draw. Our simulator plays it too. Lottery prizes are tax free in Canada.
